Big Apple

A couple of days in NYC to see my daughters and niece was a delight.  Roaming the streets is fun sometimes when the weather is nice.  It was nice.  Nicer was celebrating my birthday and Fathers Day with them.

On the road

I spent the past 10 days on the road.  From Louisville through Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont and back home.  Had the pleasure of driving US 30 in Pennsylvania from Breezewood to Chambersburg.  If you happen to find yourself traveling east on the Pa. Turnpike, get off at the Breezewood exit and take US 30.  You'll thank me.  Including the hometown of Nellie Fox (St. Thomas, PA). Here are few shots from the Keystone State.

Our dear Ohio River didn't look too bad the other day.  Indiana, west of Corydon, near Leavenworth, Derby and Buzzard Roost.

The Hood (and environs)

Just got home from a terrific trip to Portland, Oregon, for the wedding of the son of some close friends, and got to visit with my cousins, too.  Johan Vineyards was a special treat, too.

Louisville Landmarks?

The Louisville Photographic Society conducts a monthly contest based on various themes or subjects.  Last month's theme was Louisville Landmarks.  Here are a few shots that I entered and a few that I did not enter.  The triptych got honorable mention.

Way down in Bowling Green

Apologies to the Everly Brothers (look it up).  Great weekend at the National Corvette Museum track.  The video is from my car.  Then, took the long way back and shot some photos in Bonnieville, Kentucky.

Around Town

And in the country.  Traveling around town for certain project took me to some touristy things in Louisville, but still got out on the bike to Oldham, Spencer and Trimble Counties to enjoy some great Spring weather.  Now I understand why Goldenrod is the state flower.

Charlestown State Park (and environs)

Nice day for a hike, so off I went to Charlestown State Park in Indiana.  The park is part of the land given to the state by the federal government after it closed and cleaned up (at great expense) the Indian Army Ammunitions Plant spread out over more than 10,000 acres along the Ohio River.  Besides the park, there are giant buildings spread out in an industrial park, but skeletons of some of the old ammo buildings remain. First time at Universal's Florida theme park.  Two rides and I was sick.  Then, back to the FLL...

Much needed winter break to the Sunshine State.  At two small parks in Ft. Lauderdale.  Not easy to find wildlife there.  Surprised?  But did see this vortex in the wetlands.

DAARA

I had the pleasure of going to the DAARA test and tune day preceding the Nationals, in Auburndale, Florida.  Look at the jacket to see what DAARA stands for.  Antique cars, antique drivers!  This 1/4 mile oval is smack dab in the middle of BFF.  Some nice folks, too.

Moto Brew

In an old brewery in Cincinnati, the MotoBrew show was on.  The craft beer was great and the bikes were sublime.  I am sure the Fire Marshall was on the take, as it was unbelievably crowded.

Short trip into the countryside with unseasonably-warm weather.  Saw the color of this barn and couldn't resist taking a shot.

Big Sky

I have had the privilege of visiting this part of Montana, Wyoming and Idaho near Big Sky, Montana and West Yellowstone a number of times in the summer and winter.  Without a doubt, winter is astonishingly beautiful there.  No crowds.  Recently went there.  It was very difficult to whittle down the shots to a manageable number.  I may end up rotating them through.

Winter (finally!)

It actually started acting like Winter around here today.  Snow and cold.  I like it, but I like when it's over even better.

Harrodsburg Road

Drove to Harrodsburg the other day. On the advice of my friend Edward, I took a return route that went on lightly traveled state roads.  It was a fun drive through BF Kentucky and I managed to spot a few shots.

Jefferson Memorial Forest

Never been there before.  The forest is enormous and hard to believe it is in the same county as Louisville.  The trails are nicely kept and challenging.  In Winter, forests can be pretty boring to shoot photos in, but fortunately there was the lake.
